Pro-action - CVOR Points

Properly trained drivers will never have to fear entering an inspection station again.

Having done your due diligence in providing them with safety courses, their equipment and paperwork will be in order. The positive results will be no Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR) and Carrier Safety Rating points lost. No fines will be levyed and there will be no out of service (OOS) placed against them.

As an employer, you already have a large investment in your drivers and equipment.

The first step you will need would be a Pre-Facility Audit which will assist in establishing which specialized driver safety courses are best required for your company.

Driver Safety Courses will help:

  • reduce or prevent collisions, saving lives and injury
  • reduce vehicle abuse and improve fuel mileage
  • deliver cargo safely and on time
  • reduce costs
  • maintain good driving habits

A clean CVOR not only promotes better driver retention but it's also a great sales tool that most if not all shipping companies will request to see before granting you a contract. Accordingly your insurance rates should also drop as your safety ratings increase.

Re-Action

The Minister of Transport (MTO) will be paying close attention to your CVOR points and monitoring your activities. If they feel a Facilty- Audit is due they will only give you about one weeks notice in writing. We can determine your weak points and try and conduct at least two or three safety training courses to improve your ratings. MTO will be checking for three items: Drivers Records,Vehicle Maintance Records, and Safety Programs and Training.

Without a Safety Program and Training in place you could lose ten points. That will greatly impact your overall rating and it could change your CVOR to conditional or unsatisfactory.
